EP 46: Narrow Your Niche, NOT Your Mindset - a solo episode with Tracy Cherpeski
Tuesday Feb 22, 2022
Tuesday Feb 22, 2022
Welcome to a solo episode with me, your host, Tracy Cherpeski. I’m here today to share with you from the heart, how to narrow your niche and focus without narrowing your mindset.
Before I dive in, I want to share with our listeners why you won’t find us on Spotify anymore. I’m going to be blunt and say that I believe that when we have a platform (or multiple platforms) we immediately assume responsibility for taking great care with how we show up, and with the information we disseminate.
I’d been hearing a lot about Joe Rogan, his controversial topics and his skilled and engaging interview style. I’d also gathered he was pushing a lot of boundaries. I didn’t really think much of him beyond a sort of “shock jock” until I heard he had used a terrible racial slur multiple times, AND that he issued a non-apology for his despicable behavior. Then I started to ask myself why Spotify wasn’t doing a better job of reigning him in or speaking up to make a statement about how his views do not reflect their own.
You see, hate speech isn’t protected by free speech, and Spotify is a business with a massive platform. If Spotify wanted to stand up to his bigotry and stand by some kind of company standards where bigotry and hate speech weren’t tolerated, they’d have done it by now. In fact, Spotify’s silence has been deafening on Rogan’s appalling and offensive language and rants.
After I read an opinion piece by Roxane Gay in The New York Times where she laid out the difference between censorship and curation, I was able to put my finger on why I felt such a strong urge to leave the Spotify platform. I’ve linked the opinion piece in the show notes if you’d like to read. It’s very thoughtful, and Ms. Gay’s words are so much more clear than my own.
So, I’m sharing, and making a statement for myself, my company and our podcast: we have chosen to leave Spotify because we are sticking to our values as humans, and we take our responsibility very seriously.
One of our values is inclusivity, followed closely by compassion and service. We feel strongly that we have a responsibility to use our platform to share good news, positive support, and love for all of our fellow humans.
We will not stand by and watch, clutching our pearls.
We therefore choose not to support Spotify.
Silence is complicity.
As business owners, we need to make a lot of decisions. Some of these decisions are easy, some are difficult or painful, and some put us at risk for upsetting people. But, we need to take decisive action if we want to keep growing.
The decision to leave Spotify was one of those decisions, and another HUGE decision I recently made was to dramatically narrow my niche.
Learn how narrowing your niche, but not your mind, can set you free.
- It can make your marketing copy SO.MUCH.EASIER to write!
- You’ll be able to convey your message, and HOW you can support your clients so much more clearly.
- You don’t have to wear multiple hats at all times and be circus-ready with your juggling skills.
Narrowed niche. Broadened horizons and mindset. Let me lay out how I help my clients do the this.
First, clarity. Get super clear about WHY you do what you do, and what’s most important to you. I started with my vision of success, combined my values (inclusion, compassion and service) and THEN added the metrics I wanted to achieve.
Second, decision time. Make a decision about what you’re willing to do to achieve the goals and vision you lay out for yourself and your company. I have always found, both for my own self and with my clients, that EVERYTHING starts to change with the decision. It’s as if you give a huge thumbs-up to the powers-that-be and suddenly the portals open for you to jump in and go gitterdun.
Third, decisive, inspired action. Once you’re clear and committed, you’re ready to take action. One of my fellow founders in the coaching program says, “Take massive, messy action,” and I really like that, because if you’re a perfectionist, you’ll likely get stuck in the details and miss a lot of opportunity to grow and learn, and to get stuff done.
Fourth, and finally, rinse, repeat. This is what I call “constant course correction” and I’ll tell you this: 2020 can have its pivot. I think it called and asked for it back anyway. Unless you’re ready to rebrand or the phone has stopped ringing and the road you’re on has become a dead-end, you don’t need to make a sharp right turn.
I hope you found this episode supportive and helpful on your journey. To learn more about developing a success mindset, make sure you subscribe so you can always catch our newest episodes. If you haven’t already left a review, I am always appreciative, because your review helps other entrepreneurs find this podcast so they too can learn and hopefully feel less isolated on the “entrepreneur island.”
So, grab a beverage or a snack, and listen to my journey and how I help my clients narrow their niche, but not their minds.

Hi everyone! Thanks for tuning-in today for a new episode of Entrepreneur Mindset-Reset.
As always, I am so grateful that you’ve come to listen to our wonderful conversations and my occasional musings in solo episodes. If you’ve not yet given us a rating and left a review, I invite you to do so. As you may know, your review helps other entrepreneurs like you find us and to join this community of wonderful, kind and giving people. The journey of entrepreneurship can be quite isolating, so it’s my highest intention to level the playing field and provide free, evergreen content and a sense of belonging to anyone who can access podcasts.
If you find yourself wondering where to start, you’re confused or frustrated and maybe even a little lonely and misunderstood in this wild and fascinating journey of entrepreneurship, I would suggest starting with episode 3 with Pam Sams. Her words of wisdom about how to develop trust in yourself, and how when you’re intentional, the the universe (or your personal higher power) will deliver what you need. I believe this episode will lift you up and support you in regaining your perspective and direction. So queue up Episode 3 with Pam Sams for your next listen.
On to today’s episode…
In today’s episode, I am so excited to be speaking with the brilliant and effervescent Shivanii Ray of Funancial Freedom.
Shivanii shares with us how she came to be such a strong advocate for financial literacy for children and teens, and much of the impetus came from traveling the world for 5 years with her family. There’s a poignant moment in our conversation where Shivanii tells us that some of the happiest people she met in her travels were also some of the poorest, living in conditions that most in the western world would consider unacceptable. It was as a young teenager that she realized that money is not the key to happiness, but is a tool which can be used to open doors, buy things you want, and to help others.
You won’t want to miss when she tells the story about how her mom helped a woman get medical treatment, and the impact it made on Shivanii in wanting to dedicate a percentage of her financial resources to helping others.
Shivanii is only 21 years old, with the wisdom of a Sage, and talking with her about mindset, tips for opening conversations about money, money mindset, and building healthy money habits inspired me to engage more with my own children about money. I’m also inspired to continue examining my personal beliefs and habits around money, and I believe you will be inspired to do the same. If you have children, or if there are children in your life who would benefit from learning about and pre-programming their money mindset, I strongly encourage you to check out FunancialFreedom.com to learn more.
So, grab a beverage or a snack and settle-in to listen to Shivanii and her amazing journey.
Shivanii’s Bio:
Shivanii Ray is a 21 year old International Speaker and Gamification Expert, who uses her worldly experiences to inspire others to live life outside the box and on their own terms. When she was 10, after her family was forced out of the US due to immigration issues, she spent 5 years travelling around the world. Growing up globally, Shivanii was able to learn on her own terms which led her to become a certified NLP Practitioner and a certified Scuba Diver both by the age 12.
The Global Face and Community Champion of FUNancial Freedom, Shivanii now helps kids and teens become financially smart. After realising the standard education system often falls short when teaching children things like financial literacy and mindset tools, she now helps kids and teens fill in the gaps and thrive in these areas.

Episode 44: Giving Kids a Voice at RaqVision with Raquel Borras
Wednesday Feb 09, 2022
Wednesday Feb 09, 2022
Today I'm talking with the energetic and refreshingly honest Raquel Borras, of RaqVision, host of YouTube channel Raq the Boat, and mental health advocate. Raquel shares with us how her childhood shaped her view of the world, and how she relates with, and can draw out, the best in children. RaqVision is THE youth 17 and under social network, a “Mindful and Supportive Playground.”
With a background in branding and marketing, Raquel set out to build a social platform that serves as a disruptor to social media, which is often toxic and isolating to kids and teenagers. Since she is great at branding, she’s managed in just one year to build a platform, with no third party connections, where kids can feel safe, seen and heard. She was seeing how much kids have been craving community, particularly with the isolation of the pandemic lockdowns, and wanted to do something about it.
One thing they encourage at RaqVision is a “No-So 24” a social media, music, TV and mobile devices cleanse for 24 hours as a means to reset and tune-in to themselves and those they love. We could all use a No-So 24, don’t you think?
I love the story Raquel shares about a 15 year old who reached out to her on LinkedIn to tell her how inspired she was after seeing a sweaty armpit photo - meaning: not perfect, no filters, and definitely not something one would choose in our highly curated social media times. It was just a photo of a young woman who had danced the night away and had a blast with her friends. I fricken love this story, and I’m sure you will too.
Raquel’s dedication to providing a safe space and a voice to young people is impressive, and her passion and enthusiasm are palpable. I also want to highlight her refreshing honesty in how allowing the space for this platform to evolve into her ideal vision means that she’s choosing to work a salaried day job to both finance RaqVision and maintain her living expenses. The truth is, there are a lot of people on social media making it look easy and for many of us, triggering some serious “not-good-enough” thoughts, when in reality, starting a new venture can be really difficult, and it definitely requires funding. How we all choose to manifest that funding will be different, and there’s no shame in that.
Give this episode a listen, and enjoy…I find myself reflecting on our conversation a lot, and I’m sure you will too.
So, grab a beverage or a snack and settle-in to listen to Raquel and her amazing journey.

As you know, the entrepreneur’s journey can feel lonesome and isolating. I’m on a mission to help entrepreneurs break through the isolation and achieve the success and fulfillment they’ve always dreamed of. I do this in two ways: both through my business and through this podcast. In my business, I have recently committed to dramatically narrowing my niche, which has been both scary as hell and extremely rewarding. It’s making my life and business easier, and has re-ignited my passion and excitement for doing what I do. Stay tuned for an upcoming solo episode where I’ll share this transition, the mindset I needed to embrace, and how I’ve worked through the fear so I too can achieve the success and fulfillment I crave. For those who may be impatient in finding out, I’ll share a sneak-peek and tell you that over the years, many physicians, practitioners and psychologists who own their practices have come to me to help them tackle the chaos and frustration of owning their businesses and free up their time so they can enjoy the fruits of their labor, all while serving their patients with the utmost care and professionalism.
These amazing humans all have one thing in common: they are all puzzle solvers of some kind, and want to help their patients get to the root cause of what ails them so they can heal and in turn live their most fulfilled, embodied life. I’d say we all have that in common to some extent. So, if you’re what we call an “INRP” (Practitioner of Integrative, Naturopathic or Regenerative medicine, or a Psychologist) who is struggling to strike a balance between being the everything person in your practice and an amazing provider, and you’d like to take back your time, I invite you to join us on Monday, February 21, 2022, for a private Roundtable Discussion on how to master Time Leadership as owner and provider. You can learn more and register at tracycherpeski.com/medical-practices
Alright, let’s get to Giuseppe, shall we? In today’s episode, I’m thrilled to be speaking with Giuseppe Grammatico, franchise veteran, coach, author, speaker & consultant AND author of "Franchise Freedom: A New Manifesto For Your Financial And Time Freedom."
Giuseppe tells us how he made the decision to get out of the life-sucking 5 hour commute to and from his corporate job and embark on the journey into financial and time freedom through franchising. Giuseppe bought two franchises and became a soccer coach. Over time, he learned so much about the world of franchising that he decided to support future franchisees as a sort of “match maker” to help them find the right franchise fit.
You won’t want to miss when shares his clarification of so-called work-life balance and says that overall balance is what we all need to aim for. He says it needs to be sustainable or it will catch up with you.
I love how real Giuseppe is and how committed he is to his family. Many entrepreneurs start their businesses to have freedom of time, often stating that they’d like more time with their families. Giuseppe emphasizes the importance of putting your highest priorities on your calendar as appointments. For example, he and his wife have a lunch date every Friday, and it’s on calendar. Sometimes we need to remember what we’re working with (for example, with young children and work flexibility, daytime dates may be the best way to honor a weekly commitment to a date with your spouse or partner.)
Listen for his tips on reverse-engineering everything and starting with a clean slate. Think BIG, and put aside wanting to make a certain amount of money to focus on providing value. Ah.. So rich. This conversation inspired me to go bigger! Listen for the rest of his tips and insights.
So, grab a beverage or a snack and settle-in to listen to Gieuseppe and his amazing journey.
Giuseppe’s Bio:
Giuseppe Grammatico is a franchise veteran, coach, author, speaker & consultant who simplifies the process of franchising and excels at guiding his candidates to the business model that best suits their desired lifestyle. His greatest joy is helping people realize the American dream and sharing the freedom that comes from franchising.
Giuseppe is the author of Franchise Freedom: A New Manifesto For Your Financial And Time Freedom
As well as the host of his podcast: Franchise Freedom
Franchising is a powerful vehicle for success, but the franchising world can be overwhelming, to say the least. Giuseppe takes the guesswork out of the process, listens and teaches along the way, and finds the very best fit for his candidates.
“Freedom favors the bold,” Giuseppe says. Those bold enough to take action on their goals are the ones that realize the freedom boldness can deliver.

Tuesday Jan 18, 2022
Hi everyone! Thanks for tuning-in today for a new episode of Entrepreneur Mindset-Reset, the place where entrepreneurs come to learn, feel connected and celebrate our progress.
Today’s guest, Derrick Michaud, talks a lot about the type of mindset it takes to be successful as an entrepreneur. We are so aligned in our approach to business, even though we have very different businesses. I am certain you’re going to enjoy listening, and I suggest you take notes, as Derrick drops so much wisdom and shares so much value.
Before we dive in to today’s episode, I’d like to invite you to share your feedback on Apple or Spotify. Your rating and review help other entrepreneurs like you and me find us, and we all know how isolating it can feel “out here” on the Entrepreneurial Island, so help your friends and colleagues out by sharing, following us on Instagram, and writing a review.
I also want to remind our listeners who own private medical and integrative practices that we are hosting Roundtable peer learning opportunities where you can join me and an small group of your colleagues and contemporaries in talking about how to overcome the challenges of wearing multiple hats as owner, CEO, AND healthcare and wellness provider. If you are feeling exhausted and overwhelmed, have high staff turnover and a lot of unfinished business and operational tasks, you will want to join our next Roundtable discussion on Time Leadership. In these intimate virtual gatherings, you get to speak openly and confidentially to share ideas, information, and insights, and learn how to upgrade to high-impact, fulfilled CEO of your practice. Get more information about our next free Roundtable Meeting at tracycherpeski.com/medical-practices
Now, let’s get to the juicy stuff!
Today we’re talking with the thoughtful and wise Derrick Michaud, Founder of Shelby Row Productions and host of Podlogix the Podcast.
As they say, “Necessity is the mother of invention,” and Derrick’s journey to entrepreneurship came out of necessity and his deep desire to spend more time with his daughter. As a touring musician, family life can be disrupted and it can be challenging to create a sense of normalcy, not to mention steady income. So Derrick made a decision, thought through what he already knew how to do, and after getting clients in the gig economy, learned quickly that maxing-out his own capacity would quickly lead him to burnout while also hitting an upper limit on his income potential.
You won’t want to miss when he tells the story about how he fired one of his highest-paying clients, and how that built his confidence, cleared his mind and increased his team’s appreciation of his principles and values as a business owner.
He shares how his engineer coined the phrase “scope creeper” and how they decided as a company to stay in their own zone of genius and learned to be ok with not being all things to all people.
Derrick’s top 3 tips for success are:
- Shift from solo-entrepreneur to a bona fide business if you want to scale. You must think next-level.
- Find your niche and keep narrowing.
- TRY IT - just start doing it. If you’re rocking and rolling as a solo-entrepreneur, then hire someone to grow your team and business.
This episode is chock-full of wisdom, and I know you’re about to learn a ton, so grab a beverage or a snack (and something to write with) and settle-in to listen to Derrick and his amazing journey.
Derrick’s Bio:
Derrick is the Founder of Shelby Row Productions and host of Podlogix the Podcast, where we discuss podcasting for creators and producers.
Derrick was a touring musician for over 15 years. Through that time, Derrick constantly needed side hustles to pay the bills. Hosting trivia, driving for Uber, and independent auto appraising are just a few examples of side hustles. Derrick discovered Upwork.com, a job posting platform for entrepreneurs in search of another side hustle. He quickly noticed a demand for podcast audio editing. After relentlessly proposing job openings, Derrick landed his first client in January 2018. This new hustle became priority #1 and grew to the point that in 2019, Derrick decided to open an LLC and scale the up business. He did this by building a team of talented contractors that would upgrade the service offerings outside of audio editing and free up time for Derrick to work ON the company instead of IN the company. The company grew exponentially. After two years of operation, Shelby Row Productions went from a solopreneur operation to a six-figure grossing company that employs 12 contractors and has served for over 100 podcasts to date.

Switching gears a little…one of the common themes in entrepreneurship is adaptability and resilience. If ever there were a prime example of adaptability and resilience, it would definitely be today’s guest, Nate Zeleznick, visionary, entrepreneur and philanthropist. Nate is President and Chairman of Vibravision LLC and MP USA INC.
I am thrilled to share this deep and paradigm-shifting conversation with you. As with pretty much all of our episodes, I encourage you to listen when you’re in a place where you can absorb what you hear, and take notes if possible. If you’re like me and you listen to podcasts while driving or taking long walks, then make a mental note of what you want to write down when you get to a notebook. Nate drops so much wisdom in our time together, and I know you’ll learn a lot from our conversation.
Nate shares the story about how he came to be on a mission to raise humanity’s level of consciousness through the Javanese Royal Martial and Energy Art of Merpati Putih, which had never been taught to non-Indonesian people until about 20 years ago when Nate and his brother Mike were invited to study with masters in Indonesia. I find his explanation of how this breath work technology works to be fascinating, so leave you to listen to our conversation.
Over the last 20 years, Nate has been teaching martial arts and VibraVision to clients from all walks of life, all over the world. Nate shares how they were faced with the reality of being spread too thin by having multiple focuses, and how that stunted their business growth. The pandemic shined high beams on this issue they were kind of ignoring until they had to shut down their dojo for several months, and they found quickly that online martial arts classes wasn’t really aligned with their business goals, and the personal touch was hard for them to translate via Zoom. So he and his brother decided to shift more of their focus to VibraVision immersion events to help more people unlock their potential, learn to meditate and see without their eyes.
You won’t want to miss when he shares what he’s learned about working hard versus being intentional about making an impact, the impact the “Super Human” documentary had on their business, and how he emphasizes knowing you’re valuable enough to slow down in order to improve your capacity.
There’s so much to like about this conversation, and I want to let you get to listening. So, grab a beverage or a snack and settle-in to listen to Nate and his amazing journey.

We are re-broadcasting a Season 2 favorite. We chose Merry's interview because of her passion, commitment, and purpose. Merry shares form the heart and instills a sense of hope...
In today’s episode, I feel so fortunate to be speaking with a childhood friend who I’ve reconnected with through the magic of social media, the resilient and very determined, Merry McCallum, Director at Touchstone Crystal by Swarovski.
Merry shares her journey from her dream job of being a music teacher, to needing to give up her teaching career to be home with, and support, her son with autism. Merry’s story reminds us that when we let go of what we hoped was to be and accept what is, everything shifts in life. Her lessons in starting and running a home business while managing the care of her son with his therapies and activities, seem to cross back and forth between learning how to support her son and learning how to run a successful home business while growing a team.
Merry’s tips for success are deep and supportive, but I have to tell you, my biggest take-away from our conversation was how she rediscovered herself through making difficult choices in her life, and ultimately built a business to support her family and son, and the lifestyle he needs. How her sparkle and smile came back, and how she started having fun again are truly remarkable, encouraging and inspirational. She drops wisdom the entire way through our conversation, and I am certain you’ll enjoy listening to her wonderful story.
So, grab a beverage or a snack and settle-in to listen to Merry and her amazing journey.
Merry’s Bio:
Merry McCallum has been in the amazing industry of direct sales for the past13 yrs, and is currently a leader at Touchstone Crystal by Swarovski. She has 10 yrs of leadership experience in mentoring, coaching and investing in those who want to grow their own business.
As a mother of a child with autism, Merry chose her son first, and let go of her teaching career, so that she could shift into acceptance of this new world of autism and do all that she could for her child. Merry's son motivated her to start her own business just to keep the medical bills paid, but through the Direct Sales industry and self-development, Merry learned how to reclaim who she was before her son's diagnosis, and that it is healthy for herself and for her son, to not allow difficult life circumstances to define what a person is truly capable of. Merry believes in being a life-long learner in every circumstance, serving clients from the heart and that each person she meets has something amazing to learn from. Two phrases that fuel her are "Why not, who says you can't?" and "Everyone has something valuable to learn from."

Thank you for joining us today for a new episode of Entrepreneur Mindset-Reset.
This episode I’m sharing my own wisdom, and I believe it’ll be valuable to you, in particular if you’re struggling with time management, getting stuff done, and feeling overwhelmed or like time is NOT on your side. I’m sure you’ve experienced the rushed, never have time to do what you really want to do, always have unfinished tasks, and feeling like your business might swallow you whole, feeling. Most of us have been there.
You may have read articles, attended workshops or masterclasses and even purchased time management software or apps, and STILL can’t find the time to do the important tasks, or carve out time for yourself.
If you’re feeling the following:
- Overworked.
- Becoming disillusioned with being in business for yourself and are considering going back to work for a different organization (the VERY THING you left due to burnout and other frustrations!) Listen to episode 9 for more on burnout.
- You’re not experiencing the time and financial freedom you envisioned when you started your business.
Then you’re in the right place today. Here’s why “Time Management” doesn’t work, and what you can do about it.
Time management implies control and getting more stuff done. Time Leadership, which is what I’m talking about today, implies directing your attention and focus toward the activities that contribute positively to the bottom line of your business, and which bring you a sense of joy and accomplishment.
Time Leadership is wrapped around 3 pillars:
- Discovery - ask yourself: “What do I really want?”
- Analysis - how much do you cost your business, and how much money are you leaving on the table by doing things better suited to other team members, or outsourced?
- (Inspired) Action - once you’re clear, ask yourself what the next best step is. What can you accomplish right now that contributes positively to the bottom line or growth of your business?
Make sure to answer these questions, and it’ll start to become very clear where best to direct your energy and efforts in your business.
Please be sure to subscribe and leave us a rating and review so more entrepreneurs like you and me can find us and learn together.

![Episode 37: Mental Health Struggles as Catalyst into Entrepreneurship with Seven Jacobs](https://pbcdn1.podbean.com/imglogo/image-logo/10551129/My_project-1400X1400_ywymh5_300x300.jpg)

Hi everyone! Thanks for tuning-in today for a new episode of Entrepreneur Mindset-Reset.
In today’s episode, I’m speaking with the deep and wonderfully vulnerable Seven Jacobs, a social entrepreneur, mental health awareness advocate, and host of “Lost and Searching” podcast.
I’ve got to tell you, our conversation today is exactly why I wanted to start this podcast. I wanted to create an equitable space where anyone can listen and learn about the entrepreneurial journey, and feel seen, heard and understood. Seven and I talked about our internal dialogue, language we use, the thoughts we think, and habits we can practice to support us in our quest for success on our own terms as entrepreneurs. We didn’t hold back, as you’ll hear, and this episode is so rich in mindset-reset opportunities and support, that I’m sure you’ll want to listen more than once and take notes.
Seven’s journey from spending the first 12 years of his life in L.A. to coming of age and kind of “really” growing up in London, while struggling with his mental health, anger, anxiety, feeling lost, scared, and depressed, is something we all need to hear and talk about. Everyone struggles, and we all have something we need to work on to learn to work with or overcome, and Seven’s story is a reminder that we are all humans, living our experiences, and that we get to choose what to do with our experiences and choose the direction we want to take our lives.
A pivotal moment came for him when he spent three months in Nepal living in a village, WAY out of his comfort zone. That experience helped shift his thinking and dig deep spiritually to change his life forever. During his time in Nepal, he was introduced to a book called “WEconomy: You Can Find Meaning, Make a Living and Change the World,” and suddenly everything began to make sense to him about his potential to have a career that sustained him while changing the world. This is when he realized he wanted to become a social entrepreneur.
As you listen, you’ll notice we didn’t talk shop much because we spent so much time discussing the mindset necessary to be a successful entrepreneur. Pay close attention to how we distinguish the difference between manager versus leader, and and self-employed versus entrepreneur. One of his mentors taught him that in order to be an entrepreneur, one must be a leader, which, in my mind, presents a fantastic challenge: do we want to be self-employed, or are we looking to be a leader in our space? There’s no wrong answer, but answering this question can change everything about how you choose to do your business, and can set you free to achieve what you really want.
I tell you, I am excited to listen back to this episode many times to keep learning from this incredible human’s insights and wisdom. You want to know and remember Seven.
So, grab a beverage or a snack and settle-in to listen to Seven and his amazing journey.
