EP 66: Brand Messaging and Content Strategy with Afton Brazzoni
Wednesday Aug 17, 2022
Wednesday Aug 17, 2022
Today I interviewed Afton Brazzoni. Afton and I met through our business coaching mastermind program, and I am so impressed with the work she does, how she grew her business, and really how she shows up in this world. I loved our conversation so much, and as you’ll hear toward the end, we felt the time flew by.
In our conversation, Afton emphasizes the unsexy, but oh-so-important need to systematize and operationalize how you do things so you can prepare yourself and your business for growth.
As a trained journalist-turned PR specialist, and eventually marketing content maven, Afton wanted to get back to doing what she loves most - writing, so she started her company as a side gig, and by the time the covid-19 pandemic took hold, was already at a crossroads about whether she’d keep her side gig at the same level, or go full-time, so her layoff didn’t freak her out too much. It’s interesting to me how she said she felt like the job she had at a large firm with a pension plan seemed like the safe route, but ultimately turned out not to be the safest choice for her.
In her first year, she took her company from zero to 6-figures, and in her second year, doubled her revenues. Now in her third year, she’s making adjustments to her business model, focusing on how to up-level her personal and professional development, leadership, and making time to do the things she loves. Afton’s secret to her success?
- Team support - working with high-level professionals who are excited and engaged in the mission of the company
- Investing in business coaching - she said this was absolutely pivotal in how she has been able to grow her business.
- Putting herself out there and making herself visible consistently.
You won’t want to miss when she talks about being in alignment with one’s values and making investment decision from an empowered place - both for founders and for clients. It’s brilliant.
Afton’s driving forces for her business come from an undercurrent of curiosity of potential and freedom. I think you’ll love learning about perspective shifts with respect to value, worth and how to set pricing, and that in order to sell something, you’ve gotta feel it first.
Her biggest piece of advice in addition to all the wisdom she dropped during our conversation, was to remember to get joy from whatever you’re doing.

EP 65: Innovation as A Business Model with Costa Michailidis
Wednesday Aug 10, 2022
Wednesday Aug 10, 2022
In today’s episode, I am really excited to be speaking with Costa Michailidis of Innovation Bound.
Costa shares that his journey to becoming an entrepreneur seems to have been in his blood, since he comes from a long line of entrepreneurs who got their start as builders in Greece before moving to New York, and then becoming well-recognized for their high-end renovations in some of Manhattan’s finest apartments.
Costa helps people use creativity to solve problems, and reminds us that we need to learn how to cope with the rapidly changing environment thorough resilience and innovation. He defines innovation something uniquely new and valuable, or a process that results in something new and valuable. He says that entrepreneurs play a valuable role in bringing new technology to the masses, through innovative methods.
Costa teaches us that we need to test early and often, rather than, say, investing 4 years and $400K only to learn that the market is lukewarm to our brilliant idea or invention. We discussed how iterative development in our business and services not only creates more refined offerings in our business, but also builds resilience within the business in the form of adaptability, AND personal resilience and adaptability.
Costa focuses on 5 Innovation Habits:
- Test early and often
- Be ready to improvise and adapt
- Come up with lots of ideas to go beyond your regular thinking and problem solving
- Give and receive feedback as a way to improve your ideas
- Ask the right questions
You won’t want to miss when he takes the time to teach us about #3: come up with lots of ideas to go beyond your regular thinking and problem solving.
He’s sharing a reduced-priced resource in his Innovation 101 course, and for the time being, it’s priced at $35, so if you’re wanting to dive deeper into your own innovation, I strongly recommend you take advantage of this opportunity. Innovation 101 Course
I know you’ll enjoy learning from Costa today, and I suspect you’ll want to scroll down and follow the links in the show notes so you can go down the rabbit hole of innovation. So, you know what to do: grab a beverage or a snack and settle-in to listen to Costa and his amazing journey.

Costa’s Bio:
Costa began life as a creative misfit, using his imagination to spur havoc, laughter, and the occasional unintended success. Come to think of it, he hasn’t changed much over the years.
Some of his recent adventures include working with NASA scientists to reimagine the search for life beyond Earth, designing innovation tournaments inside of Fortune 500 companies to seed innovation projects, speaking at the United Nations in New York as part of the first TEDx event there, working with a group of cyber security experts (including one of the original creators of the internet—not Al Gore) to make recommendations to the Obama Administration, and that’s just the compulsory who’s who. Some of the most impactful and beautiful work he’s done has been with college students, young entrepreneurs, and nonprofit organizations.
Costa’s passion, and by some cosmic coincidence his job, is to help people be more creative, so they can solve new and meaningful problems in the world. He takes great joy and pride in skillfully priming the human brain, and the human heart, for creative breakthrough.
He cofounded Innovation Bound, and has joined a team of academics, entrepreneurs, consultants, and other creativity & innovation experts just like him to help accelerate innovation efforts in science, business, and beyond.
Costa grew up in the world of competitive gymnastics. To this day, he still chalks up to swing high bar on Wednesday nights. If you spend enough time with him, you’re sure to catch a glimpse of him flying through the air or standing on his hands.

EP 64: Listening as the Ultimate Leadership Skill with Arnaud Saint-Paul
Tuesday Aug 02, 2022
Tuesday Aug 02, 2022
Welcome to episode #64 of Entrepreneur Mindset-Reset.
I’m so happy to be bringing you another incredible conversation with today’s guest, Arnaud Saint-Paul, of Tapuat, an organization that believes every leader should have the opportunity to choose a direct path toward more harmony and alignment in their lives so that they can fulfill their heart vision.
I so enjoyed talking with Arnaud and hearing his insights on leadership and personal growth. Arnaud is a software, finance and social impact entrepreneur who splits his time between LA and Paris, with lots of adventures in-between.
He shares his philosophy, which is that when we open our hearts, we find harmony, and that leadership is all about listening.
You won’t want to miss when he talks about how an imbalance of masculine and feminine energies can create restrictiveness, and what that can do to our success. Tapuat teaches the “heart full” method, which helps people tap into the big potential of their hearts. What I loved learning is that even though sometimes it can sound a little “woo” when we talk about energies, his philosophy is grounded in science and understanding of how we function as humans.
At Tapuat, they use a science-backed method to help people and businesses focus on the positive aspects of their lives that will make them happy, successful and abundant, and allow them to fulfill their highest potential.
Arnaud is author of two books, a manifesto “I, the book” and “the Human Project”, and once you’ve listened to our conversation, I’m certain you’ll want to learn more. Links to find everything you need to know are in the show notes.
So, you know what it’s time to do: grab a beverage or a snack and settle-in to listen to Arnaud and his amazing journey.
Bio:
As a philanthropist and award-winning serial software, finance, and social impact entrepreneur for more than 20 years, living between Los Angeles and Paris, Arnaud went through his awakening when 13. While having a successful career in Finance and Technology across continents, he has been traveling throughout the world to study the different religions and philosophies in his relentless quest to understand himself. His life purpose is now to open billions of hearts and help them find harmony inside and out.

EP 63: Eradicating Tech Phobia with Maxim Cramer
Thursday Jul 28, 2022
Thursday Jul 28, 2022
Joining us today is Maxim Cramer of Mennenia, a coaching and consulting business for female founders in tech.
Maxim shares what she called her “squiggly” journey into entrepreneurship, and the challenges she met while trying to break the mold in her career in tech, and how that helped her move into her new career where she gets to do all the things she loves.
You won’t want to miss when she shares her mission in helping build bridges to the abstract and shorten the cycle and energy used to learn the latest technology.
I love how she creates learning tech as a language, and teaches the fundamentals to her clients to break down barriers. Her parting advice is the following:
- Leverage the technology you have at your fingertips.
- Set aside time each week to meet people. Not every connection needs to have a required ROI.
Our conversation is so rich, and Maxim’s dedication to her mission, the ripple she’s creating, it’s palpable. And you know what to do: grab a beverage or a snack and settle-in to listen to Maxim and her amazing journey.
Maxim's Bio:
Maxim runs MENNENIA, a coaching and consulting business for female founders in tech. She is determined to remove as many knowledge, network, and lifestyle barriers for women entrepreneurs so they can launch their life-changing ideas. She blends a deeply technical background with design thinking and strategy, making technology simple and accessible for founders and executives. She’s worked on apps that have seen over a million downloads on launch, been featured by Apple in retail

EP 62: To Pivot, or Not to Pivot with Tracy Cherpeski
Tuesday Jul 19, 2022
Tuesday Jul 19, 2022
Welcome to Episode 62. Today we’re bringing you another solo with Tracy, but first, a reminder: Black Lives Matter, love is love, women’s rights are human rights, abortion is healthcare, freedom of religion also means freedom from religion, and democratic values must be actively protected and fought for. Make sure you register to vote, and do your part to uphold the democratic process we all claim to love so much. We have a list of resources at the bottom of the show notes if you’re in need of support or healthcare access.
So, to pivot, or not to pivot. Tracy says she’s waiting for 2020 to come pick up its drunken pivot, and here’s why:
In a world where everything seems to move at warp speed, it’s really easy to get caught up in the fear that something is missing or we need to scrap our initiatives when we don’t see results fast enough for our liking.
Tracy helps you resist the urge to pivot at every slow down or delay, and to employ the 3 C’s (Constant Course Correction) and T.M.A.A. (Test, Measure, Adjust, Allow) - rinse, repeat.
She uses baking a cake as a metaphor for growing your business. Just like you wouldn’t disrupt the baking process once your cake is in the oven, because you’ve got to trust the process and that you put the right ingredients in, otherwise you run the risk of imploding your cake.
The same is true with your business. You’ve got to trust that whatever you’re you’re testing (marketing, networking or something operational) has the right ingredients to work its magic, and only after some time does it make sense to make adjustments.
Tips:
- Test, Measure, Adjust, Allow for at least 2 weeks, up to 2-3 months.
- Make one adjustment at a time.
- Remember the space shuttles: they’re off-course 97% of the time, but with constant course correction, they make their landing target 94% of the time.
Give your initiatives time and space to develop and grow. You’ll save yourself time, effort and loads of money.

EP 61: Disruption as the New Normal with Ciela Hartanov
Wednesday Jul 13, 2022
Wednesday Jul 13, 2022
Thanks for tuning in today for Episode 61!
Dr. Ciela Hartanov joins us today and she shares so many thoughtful insights and research-backed facts.
The biggest standout in our conversation was the difference between values and mindset. Mindset is about what we believe to be true, and we can have individual mindset, AND organizations can have mindset. This difference is key, as two organizations can say they hold similar values, but their mindset is what shows their differences.
Dr. Ciela helps us make sense of things with the following:
- Unraveling mindset
- What makes a leader/not a leader
- Individual mindset vs. collective organizational mindset
- Understanding the difference between values and mindset (e.g., Patagonia vs. Microsoft)
Keep an eye out for Ciela’s upcoming book, to be released in 2023, “Reclaiming Sensitivity” I know I’ll be pre-ordering as soon as she announces publication!
Ciela’s Bio:
Dr. Ciela Hartanov was part of the founding team of The Google School for Leaders and Head of Next Practice Innovation and Strategy at Google, where she developed projects designed to shape the future of leadership and work. She currently runs humcollective, a boutique strategy and innovation firm that helps companies, executives, and teams make sense of the forces shaping the future and prepare strategically.
Ciela has been a featured speaker at a wide range of conferences from The House of Beautiful Business to the HR Leaders Forum in Australia. She has been quoted in Psychology Today and Forbes and is sought after for her thought leadership on the future of leadership and adaptable organizations. She brings a multidisciplinary view that leverages business foresight and organization development to break barriers and invent the next practices for humane, kind, and responsive workplaces.

Tuesday Jul 05, 2022
In today’s episode, I am thrilled to be speaking with Jay Pickens of Diversity on Film and Thrill Company. Jay is a film maker committed to representation and artistic freedom. Jay shares his journey and philosophy about staying true to one’s art, and what diversity means to him (hint: it’s not “no white people” as some people think when they hear the word “diversity”)
The conversation is rich, and his films are really cool. I encourage you to check them out.
Jay’s parting wisdom is not the usual: He says to define what you want to do, and THEN you can create a clear path to it. Get clear about what you want to do, and understand that there are so many tools out there, and there’s always a way to find your way. There’s always a solution to a problem you might encounter.

EP 58: Hustle Culture, Bear Traps and the Meaning of Success with Tracy Cherpeski
Wednesday Jun 22, 2022
Wednesday Jun 22, 2022
This week’s episode is with Tracy flying sola. She’s helping you avoid or get out of the trap of hustle culture.
You’ll learn the distinction between “almost there” discomfort and hustle culture discomfort. You’ll learn to know when you need to keep going and when to pause, reflect and redirect.
Some signs of being in the trap of hustle culture:
- You’re tired all the time.
- You don’t sleep much, and when you do, you wake up frequently with the dreaded “3 am sweats” (and this has nothing to do with your hormonal makeup, btw)
- You know you *should* chill out, but you feel guilty even taking a 5 minute lunch break away from your desk or place of work.
- You’ve missed out on important life events for friends, family and loved ones. OR, you’re there, but you’re distracted by work or thoughts of work.
Tracy says that the best way to avoid the “bear trap” of hustle culture is to start with clarifying your definition of success, and what it looks like FOR YOU.
Ask yourself:
- How do I define success?
- What is MY definition of success? If I could wave a magic wand, what would MY success look like?
- What do I REALLY want?
- What proof will I have when I’ve achieved success?
- A.W.E. (And What Else)?
Once you get clear about this, NOW you can start mapping your plan to success.

Tuesday Jun 14, 2022
Welcome to Episode 57 with Leena Parmar of Citrus Connect Recruitment. Ours is such a deep and rich conversation, covering everything from building a team of soulmates, to the importance of tracking data for historical learning and future planning, to sustainable fashion. Her journey is very interesting, from high-level management in the fashion world to creating a very specific niche after losing her fashion job.
You won’t want to miss when she tells the story about how they flipped the negative narrative about self-employed sales recruitment on it’s head in the midst of the Covid pandemic. I love how she and her team were able to do a complete 180 and reframe the unsafe message to show just how safe and prosperous it could be in the world of self-employed sales. Leena and her team leaned on the data about people’s reasons for working and threaded the data and facts into their marketing message. Brilliant!
One of my personal biggest take-aways was Leena’s advice to make four lists:
- List things you’re not good at,
- List things you don’t like to do,
- List things you’re really good at, and
- List things you love doing.
This is how you start to write job descriptions when it’s time to hire team members. You can delegate the things that you’re not good at and that drain your energy, so you can take all of your good energy to keep doing what you do best. And the bonus is that you’re creating fulfilling work for someone else who is good and loves doing the things that don’t light you up.
Leena’s Bio:
Leena founded Citrus Connect Recruitment over 12 years ago, helping companies grow by matching them with the perfect sales candidates. Business Women of the Year nominee, and winner of the Best Sales Recruitment company in Yorkshire in 2021, Leena works incredibly closely with her clients to create a recruitment plan for short and long term business planning. In her personal life, Leena has a huge desire to live a healthy, conscious and simple lifestyle with a huge heart for sustainable fashion.
